Business communication is the process of sharing information between people within and outside a company. Effective business communication is how employees and management interact to reach organizational goals. Its purpose is to improve organizational practices and reduce errors.
Recently as a part of business communication class we had a session from one of our alum Mr. Nikhil Kulkarni, founder of Darwin Tech ,a travel technology B2B startup - which works on products for the leisure holiday market. After working with KPMG for 11 years he decided to be an entrepreneur.
Mr.Nikhil Kulkarini has done his Post Graduate Diploma in Industrial Management from NITIE Mumbai. He worked in KPMG for 10+ years .He quit from KPMG as Associate Director and co-founded Darwin Tech along.
The Agendas of the session was:
1. Business Communication in consulting
2. Structuring your content - Pyramid Principle
3. Creating a 'Personal Brand'
We learnt about different kinds of documents are to be prepared in the corporates like Proposals, Reports, Executive Briefing, Detailed Project Report, Work Papers, and to do justice to these one needs to be proficient in tools like Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
Use MECE(Mutually Exclusive and Collectively Exhaustive). Every point of communication should be distinct from each other. There should not be any redundancy.
IDFL where we need to organize Idea,Data,Facts and logic .

Personal Branding:
Personal brand is how we promote ourself. It is the unique combination of skills, experience, and personality that we want the world to see . It is the telling our story, and how it reflects our conduct, behavior, spoken and unspoken words, and attitudes.
We use our personal branding to differentiate ourself from other people. Done well, we can tie our personal branding with our business in ways no corporate branding can possibly succeed.

Number 7 has become a personal brand for Dhoni
In the pre-internet days, our personal brand was just our business card. Unless we were high profile in the media or somebody who featured strongly as the face of advertising, few people would have heard of us. In today’s highly public world, where every little action is discussed at length on social media, we are far less anonymous.
Special thanks to Professor T Prasad for teaching Business Communication in a practical
way by giving us insights of the indusry.

ReplyDeleteThe pyramid is excellent.
ReplyDeleteI don't know about the businesses but in dealing with people or leading a group of people if you are known as a brand it makes you much more effective than others but at first you have to make yourself a brand by proving your points persistently which creates an impact on a significant number of people and then those people start talking about you and that's the point where your brand is established and now you can promote yourself with your brand.
Thats my opinion on the subject, please reply and feel free to add more to the discussion.
